Evening Anchorage

On the summer solstice — the longest day of the year — I headed out on my kayak from Cape Henlopen as a beautiful sunset unfolded. This photograph of a sailboat anchoring was taken as sun rays pierced through the clouds. It was a beautiful, warm evening that ended up with a sky-of-fire type of sunset, which I was able to predict from many years on the water. The sky continued to develop its hues for about 45 minutes, so I didn’t want to leave. I will never forget that day.
