| 26) The above part of the survey will tell us which topics we should continue to cover. But what else would you like to see? What other topics should Delaware Beach Life Magazine cover? |
- I would like to see a page where i could ask your readers for any photos, info.or stories they may have in reference to my Aunt who lived at both Primehook and Broadkill as well as Wilmington.I'd also just like Broadkill beach history and memories from its early years.I'm not sure where to go for such information.
- This magazine is great. I am a Delaware beach enthusiast...I also enjoy Ocean City, MD. I plan on moving down to the beach permanatly in the next year or so. I have been looking for a magazine like this and finally discovered it this year. The only other thing that I would suggest is to include stuff that happens in the off season as I enjoy to frequent the beach in the fall and winter seasons too. Thanks and keep up the great work.
- IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT
- Articles beyond the Delaware beaches. In fact, anything on the Delmarva Peninsula -- whether you live here or visit here, it's within a short distance and it broadens your scope as well as the reader's. Thanks for the publication!
- I really enjoy the environment side of things since that heavily impacts the beach community!
- I think you've done a good job covering the relevant topics already. Keep up the good work!
- Your magazine is wonderful - I really enjoy everything about it. Keep on printing - the older pics & storm pics are great - I was there to see the damage done & the rebuilding. Would like to see more articles on business / restaurant owners - espically the old timers.. I am 55 yrs. old - have been going to Rehoboth Beach all my life with family. Most of those wonderful fun years spent with a well known Rehoboth family.. I have seen many changes in Rehoboth Beach. I love the "BEACH LIFE".. thank-you..
- We like the fact that this magazine's focus is more on items of interest to the coastal population from Lewes to Fenwick and less focused on the Dover, Wilmington population as found in the Delaware Today magazine. Much more area friendly and we like learning things about our area, the ecology, the wild life and marine life and, the locals. My husband and I read every issue from cover to cover. Thanks!
- Local land use issues--development and quality of life services; demographic profiles/special interest stories on changes occurring at the Delaware beaches; information on local economy--expanding business opportunities; beach real estate market
- IN one astute observation I overheard today, the rep selling homes in a new development west of Millsboro said they considered "beach area" anywhere between a 30 to 45 minute ride. Interesting. It also gives you license to move as you have already done, further Inland.
- You do a splendid job and select interesting topics. Maybe, life off season at the beach could be included.
- Progessive artists in area. Not sculpture, please. Painters, yes.
- I usually read from cover to cover and enjoy the entire magazine
- Great magazine. I look forward to every issue. Keep up the excellent work!
- Even though I answered with a 2 on the health issue (it was only because of the topics within the parens)I would think that a well researched article about health care and what the area is capable of supporting vs the larger medical centers. Also look into the movement of the doctors from practice to practice, why are they moving, what do they see? Also speak more about growth of the area. Advocates for growth, slow growth and no growth. Thanks for listening.
- more local color without concentrating on people who are already well-known
- Continued political, environmental and human stories are the best. I have learned more about Delaware from DBL than any other source. The dining, nightlife, beach stuff is necessary but what sets you apart is the excellent coverage of the real meat of Delaware. (If I ever get some free time, I might volunteer to write a small "style" column for you! all the best, joyce quinlan
- Terry -- I've rated the real estate, politics and social issues 2s because I feel that these "newsy" pieces, while well written and interesting topics for year-round residents, may be out of place in your magazine. They seem to be of a different character than the rest of the articles in your publication-- too serious in nature. It is a difficult juxtaposition to read about poverty after enjoying interior photos of an expensive ocean front home. If one of the goals of the magazine is to make coastal Delaware an attractive destination, these types of articles don't support that objective. I've never seen articles of that serious nature in Coastal Living or other similar lifestyle publications. It all depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Thanks for considering my opinion.
- I particularly appreciate the "balance" Beach Life has evidenced in the issues I've seen and read. I like the lighter, more entertaining stories but I feel really stimulated by the meatier, more issue-oriented features. I hope you can maintain that balance -- the chord you've struck seems perfect!!
- Regional events such as Nascar races in Dover, daytrips around the region such as Cape May, charter fishing, etc., comparision of summer life in Dewey/Rehoboth vs. Ocean City, and review of the birth & growth of outlet industry on Route 1.
- i really like hearing about how life used to be and stories of old Rehoboth/Dewey -- and how things have changed. Maybe also a little osmehting about upcoming building -- trying to see if I could affor to buy something .... but I guess that is easy enough with all the real estate things around. Another thing -- how beach food/specialties has changed over the years? Anyway -- love the mag.
- Annual writing contest (I am a writer!)with beach theme.
- shops of interest local homes/older cottages
- More about Indian River Inlet Lifeguards, and lifeguards in general. All lifeguards!
- Coastal Living has several pages toward the beginning that highlight unique item to purchase for your coastal home. How about a single page dedicated to unique items (for sale) found in local shops...fun things.
- Just keep doing what you're doing. I really enjoy your magazine, and its beautiful photography.
- It would be nice to see more stories in reference to the arts in the area. We have a nice artist community but not very much is ever written about them. Also, as a side comment, the magazine needs a good proof reader-the magazine is top notch quality in it's looks and should reflect that with the content as well. Overall, I LOVE the magazine and would like to see it published more often.
- You are doing an excellent job. Read each issue pretty much cover to cover. Love the local flavor! Maybe have some more fiction/poetry/haiku or human interest stories, But I think you are doing a great job already.
- Photography by someone other than Kevin Fleming/Jay Fleming!
- Perhaps more interviews w/the various city managers/mayors of each of our beach cities.
- The best thing about this magazine is that no matter what your social class or interests are , there is something in this magazine that will appeal to you , without it being overdone. Unlike the "Delaware Today" magazine ,I felt like I was reading about a state I didn't recognize or could identify with. It seemed to be all about Wilmington and all the black tie dinner parties and balls plus they have way too much advertising. You guys are doing a great job. The first time I saw this magazine was in my eye doctors office and was so impressed with it. I wanted to know where I could get it and I took info down on how to get it. I plan to send it as gift subscriptions this Christmas . Thanks for a great publication that reminds me a bit of Southern Living -warm and fuzzy. What I would like to see in the magazine , would be a featured recipe from a local cook, reader or restaurant. Also how about a house design/blueprint for beach house ideas and or some garden ideas of what does best in a beach environment. Also remember not to stay always in the beach area , try at times to reach our to other areas- Milton, Long Neck, Dagsboro etc. Just for your info, I do not use this magazine as a "Coffee Table magazine" I pass it on to let other people know of its existence. THanks for listening , sincerely Diana Brotherton
- tay with the format that your reader survey suggests. Who better to ask? I give your magazine as gifts and the recipients love it, as do I.
- things for kids and adults to do on a rainy day at the beach
- Gay and lesbian family life. Rehoboth Beach is teaming with gay and lesbian families. It’s gotten so that you cannot tell the heterosexual families from the gay and lesbian families. There is a wonderful level of acceptance here in Rehoboth Beach that makes it a great place for family vacations.
- Enjoy the magazine immensly - would be great if you could publish year round so that we could read new materials all year round
- You have them covered
- Have you ever done a story on Gus&Gus - the family operated eatery on the boardwalk that has been around for years? We've been going there so long that my daughter had the groom's cake at her wedding last summer made to look like a bucket of Gus&Gus fries. There's a picture of it hanging on the wall in the restaurant.
- I CAN'T THINK OF ANY AT THIS TIME THAT ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE ABOVE. THANKS FOR A GREAT MAGAZINE!
- I love your magazine. I have been coming to Rehoboth for over 30 years during the summer. It is nice to know more about the place I love to come to. Wish I could afford to live there all year around....but I have to work.
- I would like to see a picturial featuring a local business owner and his jeep fishing on the beach.
- More on fishing around the area
- This is the best magazine ever! I wouldn't miss reading it the day it comes in the mail! I would like to see an article about jobs that people have. We all know that service industries are the most prevelent jobs but what about different jobs...such as people who will come into your home and paint a mural or paint furniture. The landscaping business has boomed. I would like to "shadow" some of these people for a day through "Beach LIfe". I understand through The Art League that we have jewelry makers here in Rehoboth.
- Wow - what a magazine. I just recently learned of your magazine and bought it. Wow. Keep up the great work!
- some downtown area subjects.
- backround of businesses that have had the same familiar faces for many years
- I would love to see an in depth article about the Tunnell Family and their contributions to our Long Neck area.
- A consistent, ongoing update of the major Rehoboth-Dewey beach replenishment project would be great
- I appreciate you including gay lifestyle articles and issues. Thank you.
- Long Neck and Oak Orchard area.
- The Beebe Hospital Expansion to accommodate population growth and vacationers; the contributions of the Freeman Communities; the impact of the growth of the Rt. 1 westward Route 24 corridor. I just happened upon the magazine and love it and plan to subscribe. Keep up the good work.
- Perhaps the numerous restaurants could be rated....
- Include articles written from the visitors point of view; for those of us not lucky enough to be locals.
- Overall it is a great magazine. Every now and then it can have a little to much on the art of the area and not enough of what is going on. In general you do a good job. Keep up the good work.
- Quality of life, relocation, employement oppurtunities.
- This is one of my favorite magazines, and I actually "Make time" to read it from cover to cover, so I find most of the articles interesting. I'm one of the many who can only afford to spend some days a year visiting, while dreaming of working and living in the region. Still looking, so maybe some unique employement opportunities, although I know that can get too cumbersome and out of date/time quickly. I like the diversity of the articles; different every issue. Not many constructive suggestions. Keep up the good work!
- I would love to see more about old beach and sand toys and a history on old beach pails and shovels...Titia L. Halfen
- Subscibers copies in their homes before they appear in stores.
- Maybe more kid friendly things to do. I love the Pumpkin Chuckin piece. Maybe something on bike trails (off of Route 1). A piece on the cycling clubs in the area. Also the running clubs.
- more aticles on the animal life of rehoboth, more articles on the beaches of delaware
- fishing, children's activities
- Where do all the visitors come from? What are the secret skeletons in the closet? :) What will be happening to southern Delaware in the next 20 years? Why is flood insurance such a hassle?
- Oldest architecture in area---1700's on-----and how has it survived so long
- I'd like to read some "Beach Life" lite stories like -- What is a beach plum, what does it look like, and where does one find it? Do Delaware waters have seahorses? What happens to unclaimed items in any beach town's lost and found department, and what are some of the most unusual items? Ask people-on-the street for creative suggestions for cheap eats, avoiding the purchase of parking permits, and alternative choices to rainy day matinees. Is the Rehoboth Fire Department really all-volunteer and, if so, who are these people? Finally, which local person/group makes the best regional food (chicken 'n dumplings, crab soup, organizational fundraising breakfast or dinner, etc.) or fishing product (crab traps, lures, etc.)? I miss Brown's Seafood Store on Rt. 1, and the local lobsters that I bought for $5 a pound (more than a decade ago) from a guy with a cooler on the corner of Route 1 and Cullen St. in Dewey. I'd love to read a story about the "lack of" local fishmongers in the seaside communities. (Flounder at Rehoboth Seafood and Big Fish Market is as fresh as the flounder in Cleveland.) And where can I find local lobsters today? Stone crab claws, too? People love to eat and read about food. Are you planning to write about Yoder's Market near Milton? Bozie's on Rt. 1? The BBQ/pie place in Bethany? I'm fascinated by all of the local families--I've read elsewhere about the Beebes and the Steins, but I don't think I've read about the many long-time descendent families like Lingo, Thoroughgood, McCabe, Brittingham, and Redefer. Speaking of Redefer, have you considered writing about land leases and the Rehoboth-by-the-Sea Realty Company? How many options to purchase land have been offered and taken would be an interesting read. This will change the landscape of Dewey.
- Interested in a little more history about the Indian River Inlet.
- Being a new resident, I like to read about the people I now live with - what they think and what they do - and I like to learn about shopping places that I need to get through my day. I'd love to see my new house there when it's done!! (just kidding)
- I sent a check on 11/15/04 for next year that you haven't cashed. Did you receive it? Roberta Dukes - 4021 Greenmount Road Wilm., DE 19810
- You've covered all our interests very well.
- This is a test to see if the survey is working properly.
- I LIKE HISTORY AND DELAWARE IS RICH IN I. i WOULD LIKE TO SEE ARTICLES OF OLD PRIME , HOOK BROADKILL AND REHOBOTH.
- Keep up the good work.
- Information about local fishing, lighthouses
- Neighborhoods and community associations. Where are they located, who lives there (locals or summer residents, old or young people), what types of homes (who is the builder, individual or townhouses), amenities (pool, tennis courts, walking & biking paths?), price ranges, etc. I think it might be interesting to have a story with a picture of the neighborhood and maybe a resident or two.
- We were walking the boardwalk yesterday and we decided to peek in the windows of the Retired Railroad house beside the VIA building. I hate to say this but I have lived here all my life and never knew what it looked like inside. It would make very interesting reading and great pictures if someone would do a history on the home. Thanks
- don't think that lesbian community is a good example of a social issue in question 21
- Stores about individuals that where raised in the area.
Business resources, like kitchen designers, etc.
- I particularly enjoy your pieces that show the quieter side of Delaware's Beaches.
- More coverage of Bethany Beach and Fenwick Island.
- pictures of the beach in the winter. stories & pictures from the past.
- as I am a partial year around resident I would like to see good coverage of "what's going on" in the off season months as well
- Photography Contest
Animal Profiles/Rescue Stories
Poetry
- Some of the delaware Kayak racing, Also maybe a story on several of the kayaking clubs the two that i know of are Delmarva paddlers and Donsdelaware kayak club both are yahoo groups
- This is a test to make sure the survey is working.
- I'd like to see a page where we can ask questions of other readers from the area.I'd like to find people who knew my family and friends.
- I love Rehoboth and the surrounding areas. Reading the magazine enables me to stay connected even when I'm not there. In my heart Rehoboth has always felt like a second home to me and it would be nice to hear from a local's perspective what tips or ideas they have for out of towners who might be considering making a move (permanent or summers only) to the Rehoboth Beach area. Since so many people out of the area feel a special connection to Rehoboth it may be nice to hear how the roots of the town branch out and what they mean to people who visit numerous times per year, but cannot live there year round; to demonstrate just how truly special Rehoboth is and what it mwans to so many people. I'm also interested in what happens during the winter in Rehoboth. For instance, who takes care of the beaches and boardwalks, what goes into shutting down a town for the off season, and what's to do for those of us who cannot stay away in the off season? I'm also curious about the effect the storms had on the coast. It is mentioned in numerous magazine about a storm that took place in the 1960s. Could you a more detailed story about that event? The personal accounts were great, but it left me wanting more information and details about the way mid-Atlantic coastal towns deal with hurricanes. I think the magazine is wonderful and I have learned so much about coastal Delaware. Your information makes me love the area even more than I already do. Wish I were there now!
- Foucus on some of the little know treasures that you might not find on your own. Local artists SEADAST Tour community fairs in back bay towns of Millsboro, Dagsboro, Frankford ect. We read your magazine too.
- More coverage of Bethany Beach
- My husband and I would love to see some restaurant reviews - we love to try new places and out-of-the-way places. And by the way, I think we'd be great reviewers ourselves, fair and enthusiastic - and although we're not professional writers we do have over 30 years experience of dining in the Rehoboth area!
- Well, I like everything about your magazine.
- Lewes Canalfront Park update
- Ethnic statistics
Crime statistice would be nice.

- you cover a good variety and that is important. timely things happening - noted visitors sighted maybe...
- I think you should have something about where people can go with their dog's at the beach and if there are any dog safe beaches or parks where they can run.
- Articles about rental property (from the owners' viewpoint); i.e., problems with renters, maintenance and upkeep of properties, ways to make your property more desirable to renters, etc.
- Anything on Rehoboth Beach an surrounding beaches.
I love the area - have been coming to this beach for 50 years.
I really enjoy reading my Beach Life magazine...
- A section with local anglers showing what they caught, where they caught it, and what bait was used.
- Stories about various ethnic/minority groups in coastal delaware, populations we don't often hear about in this area.
- boating, sportfishing, ocean & bay ecology/sustainability issues.
- In depth profile of businesses.
- More information on new business on the Delaware Beaches. Like the Metropolitian does in Salisbury but for Delaware!
- I can't think of any additional topics, but I REALLY wish you would include small maps when you talk about small towns, rural roadways, waterways, etc. I almost never know where the place is that you're talking about, and I've had a home in Dewey for 10 years! Thank you.
- I would like my August issue. It's already August & I was counting on my "events calendar" to plan my month.
- Gluten free restaurants for those with celiac disease
- LOVE IT! I feel like this quality magazine, that you would see in a very flashy metropolitan area, is just for us - Slower Lower - I love it! Keep em coming!
- YOU PRETTY MUCH COVER EVERYTHING ALREADY. I often pick up back issues and re-read the articles and look at the pictures. Every copy from issue one on has been saved in my bookcase and read often by my house guests. My guests refer to the ads for things to do and places to go during the week (dining, shopping, events.) It's really a great tourist (and locals)resource.
- Cover Ocean City and areas in Maryland
- I'd like to see a local chef profiled each month
- There are several items above that you have listed that can't be found in the Contents page. You have to search for the article, such as the Beach Journal page in this Sept Issue. A more complete table of Contents page would be beneficial. over all, I would still adore this magazine, even if you never changed a single thing! I think you are doing a wonderful thing in covering the topics you have to date. This previous issue waas passed around through my family and led to email debates with current residents, reassuring us the Corps weren't REALLY going to dismantle the Bayside fun spots for condos, but, as you know, who knows?
- I would like to see stories about family businesses that have survived the new look of Rehoboth and Lewes, such as Grotto Pizza, Dollies, Traders Jewelery Store, Lewes Dairy, and Lloyds Grocery Store
- I would like to see stories about family businesses that have survived the new look of Rehoboth and Lewes, such as Grotto Pizza, Dollies, Traders Jewelery Store, Lewes Dairy, and Lloyds Grocery Store
- An indepth interview with WGMD Talk Show Host Randy Nelson
- I would like to see more recipes similar to a Southern Living approach.
- Mobile home communities! They're not just about seniors and people who fish/crab/boat! A lot of us consider our community to be HOME! My husband and daughter ive here in Rehoboth Bay Community off Old landing road..we call our home "Simply Love" cottage-by-the-bay! We have a terrific location,a beautiful pool, tennis court, basketball and shuffleboard area! The people are positive and homes are well maintained! Not all of the beach area should just be thought of as million-dollar homes and townhomes!
Thanks for the opportunity to present my thoughts!
P.S. My check is in the mail to subscribe to OUR local publication! Thanks for an informative and photographic magazine!

- I absolutely love your magazine and read it from cover to cover. I also like to give gift subscriptions to friends and family. I was born and raised in Millsboro, DE and plan to retire in Rehoboth Beach. It is so wonderful having a magazine devoted to the area I love so much.
