Argument at the Rookery

In mid-June, the Point of Cedars Island in the Little Assawoman Bay is busy with the nesting of egrets, oystercatchers and gulls. In the crowded nesting environment, competition can occur among the birds. The egret above flew into this tree to rest at a high point, where the double-crested cormorants were gathered. The cormorants apparently didn’t appreciate the egret joining them and an argument started that went on for a while before the egret gave up his spot and left.
