Inspiration From the Board

I’m really fortunate to have access to creeks, coves and the bay near my home, and in the summer I often break out my paddleboard at a moment’s notice and head for the water. This particular evening I was incredibly lucky to experience a dramatic sunset at Massey’s Landing that included multiple layers of clouds, light and shadows; pinks, blues and oranges. All sunsets are beautiful, but this one was truly a sight to behold — and even better as it was witnessed from atop the board. Once I paddle out to a good viewing site, I lie back, relax, and enjoy the show!
I paint, and many a sunset have been recreated in my artwork, but of all the sunsets I’ve seen over the years, this one inspired what is undeniably my favorite painting. In the cold winter months I look at it and I’m reminded of that warm summer night on the water when I had the good fortune to watch such a brilliant spectacle.
