    VISUAL VACATION

A photographic look at why we live here

Painting With Light

  • may VV

Photograph and text by Ken Arni
From the May 2017 issue

With so many years of rescues in its history, the Indian River Life Saving Station still seems to stand ready just north of the Indian River Inlet. Upon a request from the Coastal Camera Club, the doors were opened and I was amazed to see the rescue boat, as if poised to go to a foundering ship. This image was made with a photographic technique called “light painting,” in which hand-held lights illuminate the subject during a long exposure. It captures the magic of the nighttime scene.
