Seal Sightings

Winter is seal season in coastal Delaware and we had quite a few harbor and gray seals here this year. I went out in Lewes Harbor by boat one warm February morning and saw about 50 of them, including these two gray seals. The best places to see them if you don’t have a boat would be Lewes Beach and the tip of Cape Henlopen. I would recommend early in the morning or later in the day closer to sunset.

If you happen to find one on the beach please keep yourself and your dog far away, as the seal may be injured or in need of a rest. If you do find one on the beach that looks injured, you can report the stranding to the MERR Institute at 228-5029. Good luck, they are always fun to find.
