Photograph and text by Tony Pratt
From the July 2023 issue

One way I like to challenge myself in my field photography is to look at a scene or subject in a way that I may not have envisioned it before. The East End Light at Cape Henlopen is one of the most photographed sunset scenes in Delaware. I, like most everyone else, usually set up on the beach or low tide sand flats on the west side of the point and shoot the setting sun either above, next to, perched on top of, or directly behind the lighthouse. This photograph, however, frames the lighthouse in a different way. Although the lighthouse takes up a very small percentage of the full frame, it commands attention as the subject in a dune and sunset context with shapes, lines and framing that lead the eye to it. A little different view of a familiar landmark.
